Every once in a while I stop by YouTube and look at some of the football drill videos. Sometimes there will be something worthwhile. I have found videos that I have included in the blog. Today I want to take a look at this Nike video on Linebacker Drills.
There are good and bad points to this video, and most of them are not any fault of the video itself.Good Linebacker techniques displayed in the video:
- The body position of the Linebacker in the video for stance is excellent. He stays down in all of his movements, and his hips rarely move from the level he is in during his stance. If you spend all of your time coaching stance, and your guy pops out of it immediately on the snap, you wasted your time.
- The shuffle and shuffle – run drills are good for shifting from a controlled shuffle to busting into an all out sprint. The ability to change speeds is just as important as the ability to change directions.
- The tackling form is not to my liking, but the words being used are good. Head up, at all times, he’s exploding the hips through the ball carrier, the feet keep moving.
