Its amazing that we’re getting so close to the 2009 football season. I know that for us (even though I’m not there yet), we are already preparing for our Week 1 opponent. That but how do we use all of this time, and use it wisely?
Collect as much film together as you possibly can. We can get to know the personnel that is returning to our first opponent pretty well. Make sure to check the roster and see who’s a Senior. You can probably get some buzz about anyone coming in or coming up from JV by talking to some of their other opponents if you really need to. We know how much personnel can change, but you should at least get a good read on the key components of their offense.Study up on your opponent’s offense – learn it inside and out! Chances are that either you’ll be seeing it more than once this season or if it is the only time you see it then you don’t know much about it! So learn about it. Use football forums to learn as much as you can. Find clinic notes on the offense. Talk to other coaches who run that style! Whatever you need to do. Be confident in how your defense will defend their offense.
