Coach,
I am coaching 11 year olds. Could have a dominating line. Got two who are afraid to get hit. How do I get past that before I backs get killed? I already tried splatter. They are animals during that, but turn to sheep when the shield and mat is gone. HELP!
Thanks,
Wayne Garrison
I’m going to offend some people here. Let me apologize up front for that.Put them in to low contact drills. Do not up the contact thinking they’ll either sink or swim. What they will do is leave football and never come back, 9 times out of 10. If an 11 year old is soft, it may be because he is 11.I have never coached Youth football. But I have seen kids between the ages of 13 and 20 have the lights turn on halfway through the season. I have had a 17 year old who had been playing football forever, finally figure this contact thing out in his Junior year.Football is not natural, and the earlier you are coaching kids, the more your job is to help them do as many of the unnatural tasks of football with as little misery as possible.
