You’ve no doubt seen it coming. Football is changing, we can’t deny it. As a defensive guy, you can still begin every season drawing up your defense against a Pro-I Formation. Teach your technique for dealing with that pesky Tight End. Teach your run fits on the Iso. Make sure your kids know how to defend the Inside Veer. And when the dust clears sometime in November or December, you will look around and think to yourself, “What a waste.”Yeah, you’ve got an I-Formation team on the schedule, maybe a Wing-T’er or two. But unless you are living in a very cold and rainy climate, you must defend the Spread Offense. And you see a lot of it. They’re not all created equal, either. Once upon a time you learned to defend the Belly and the Buck Sweep. Now you’ve got to learn to defend Spacing Routes and Zone Read Option.
